OASIS PERSON-TO-PERSON

Are there times when you need someone to listen or just talk things out?  The OASIS "Person-to-Person" program offers listening ears for adults ages 50 and over.  The peer support volunteers will listen, encourage and provide support as you work through transitions and your challenges with low vision.  It's not advice.  It's just like visiting with an old friend on the telephone.  Conversations are confidential and the service is free of charge.

The peer support volunteers are screened, trained and receive ongoing supervision from a mental health professional.  (Please note:  this is strictly a support service and is not meant to replace professional services and is not a crisis line.)  The volunteers also have trained in the many aspects of low vision by our Leslie Hoy.

To get started, call the Person-to-Person voicemail and leave your information.  A volunteer will call you back over the next 24 to 48 hours.  They then will ask you some questions and set you up with a peer volunteer.  The number to call is 210-242-5788.
